The Artist’s Eye

Is there a painting or sculpture you’re drawn to? What does it say to you? Describe the experience. (Or, if art doesn’t speak to you, tell us why.)

For many moons now I’ve held the buffalo in high regard. It always seems so majestic in images. I bought a statue while on Catalina Island. It’s been on my teaching desk ever since. It’s become my favorite statue and/or 3D piece of art that I own. When I look into the statue’s eyes I feel peaceful. I’ve seen them drinking at the river on Catalina. They are terrifying and huge but at the same time peaceful. The statue has been broken a few times here and there but I fixed it. I even repainted a part that had chipped off revealing the white plaster underneath. I have a few buffalo figurine/keepsakes. This is my favorite one. It’s funny how connected I feel to the Buffalo and through this statue especially. I had a dream once where I saw a Buffalo drinking and he looked up and spoke to me. I admit, that would be odd in real life but because it was a dream, I have adopted that memory and the buffalo is my favorite animal.
